I am not trying to bash your guys tranny....thats not the angle I am taking here. I think most of you think that. I am just pointing out that DCX is screwing their customers who are paying good money for these trucks and they have chosen a product that is substandard in my opinion (due to material cost management AKA corporate greed).
How do you figure the G56 was a cost-cutting measure? Or they chose a product that is substandard? Think STAR likes warranty work?

In most vehicles, aluminum pieces are higher quality than the steel items they replace - so perhaps just the innards are junk?

We don't mind that you like what you have - it's natural... just like throwing the latest engineering/technology under the bus until it's been proven.

Pretty much all most of us are going on is what is "prefered" (except a few that have deemed them "junk")
I had a 47RE and it gave me trouble right at 40K miles. Beyond that it served me well, now that I have a manual, I wish I had known how much better they are to tow heavy with. Little did I know that I was walking into a piece of JUNK.

No, Heck no. I don't drive it enough to break it. I have towed the 5'er about 450 out of the whopping 1785 miles I put on it since I got it.
I'm not a good cross section of CTD owners, my truck is not a primary vehicle and on top of that for the most part I baby it (fuel saving purposes) It's gets romped every so often, but nothing that would equate to a sled pull or nads out 1/4 mile. I put too much $ into her for all that.
It mostly sits and looks pretty in the driveway waiting till our next mini adventure.
Mainly, I am one of the guys who gets super defensive when someone tells me I bought an inferior product and doesn't offer up any real data to support it. We all want to think we are making informed, thought out decisions when it comes to our trucks, what we put on and in them, etc. When someone takes a bold stance (such as, well,... saying something is JUNK!) I am forced to buck a little to see what the motivation is.......

I searched quite a while and had the chance to buy about 12 autos before I finally decided on the truck I have now.

Dodge is by far cheaper than both Ford and Chevy. I don't see the connection.

I agree - I'll consider anyone's opinion it they provide facts to support it - but otherwise I have no choice to go with common sense, education and the empirical data I've collected.

Wow!! this sucks for NV5600 owners! ***

this is from packard8 link......

IMPORTANT!

Production of the NV5600 transmission is ended as of January 31, 2005. We can sell new transmissions only as long as supplies last. So, if you are thinking of a NV5600 upgrade or replacement, DON'T WAIT!!!! When they are gone they're gone! TOO LATE, THEY ARE GONE!!

Dodge is replacing the NV5600 with a Mercedes 6speed (originally intended as a Getrag). New Venture/MTM lost the contract to supply Daimler-Chrysler with transmissions. New Venture itself is a now dissolved partnership between Daimler-Chrysler (DMC) and GM. The transmission assembly plant in Muncie, Indiana, is once again part of the GM Powertrain Group. The plant is currently under contract to supply GM with NV4500 and NV3500 transmissions for several more years. The transmission plant is now known as Manual Transmissions of Muncie LLC.

Our supplies of NV4500 transmissions and genuine New Venture/MTM parts remains good. At this time, we are still able to get adequate numbers of NV4500 transmissions for Dodge applications and for later model GM trucks. However, if you are looking to buy a brand new NV4500, don't wait to long as the prices are climbing due to production cuts related to the loss of the DMC contract.

***The supply of new NV5600 transmissions is exhausted. The parts situation for NV5600 transmissions is terrible. How Dodge and MTM could let this situation develop is beyond our comprehension. There are reports of 2005 trucks under warranty waiting for over two months for parts or transmissions. There does seem to be some indication this situation will improve during 2006. We really hope someone takes legal action against Daimler-Chrysler and MTM over this situation. To have new and late model North American built trucks with such lousy parts support is a criminal offense.***

There has to be somebody making aftermarket parts for them, right?
Schew!, glad I got the G56.

Well you all got me thinkin so i went and took this g56 apart and to my surprise the casing where the countershaft bearing goes in was busted and that caused it to break the gears on the other shaft I am going to price parts and labor and may get it rebuilt just in case I want to sell my truck i want to keep my rare nv5600.
