G56 Failure

not necessarily say the G56 is junk, but they surely didn't put the dual mass flywheel on there to save the engine. I am sure someone is going to have a theory for why, but the bottom line is they needed to dampen the engine with this particular transmissions when they have never done it before.
Don't get me wrong, I hope they hold up, but only time will tell. I know there are plenty of them getting tested (abused) daily. LOL

The dual mass flywheel lowered the harmonics to an rpm less than idle....

Yeah, I admit he works it real hard hauling cars inside a closed trailer (with quarters in it) and is out of warranty. He didn't have much choice. The dealer had it apart and he did verify the damage. He said there was about an inch of teeth missing on a gear and the shaft, synchros, and other stuff was a gonner. The dealer looked for parts but had no luck (or so they said). It would be alt least two weeks for parts. He needed to get going as he was getting behind on loads and needed money to pay for his tranny. Plus the coast of layover.

“as intended” use, then I’ll start getting concerned. Hotshotters carrying 2x & 3x the rated gross, sled pullers and drag racers don’t count….if you abuse your truck something’s gonna break.
I’ve driven NV’s and in my book there is no comparison in the precision feel of the shift gate…the G56 shifts like a Porsche compared to the Dodge NV or the ZF that ford uses.
Didn’t a guy recently post here that his ’06 truck with low miles spun a rod brg??? Guess that makes all Cummins ISB’s junk………….

You guys would make a good legal defense team.
Still doesnt make a cost cutter tranny any good.
Maybe if Chrysler starts handing out half ton axles with 3/4 ton pickups and they "work" for most people then I guess thats ok too huh? (cause thats the logic you guys are using)
I am not trying to bash your guys tranny....thats not the angle I am taking here. I think most of you think that. I am just pointing out that DCX is screwing their customers who are paying good money for these trucks and they have chosen a product that is substandard in my opinion (due to material cost management AKA corporate greed).

Not bashing our transmissions?
‘It is confirmed, G56 is junk in my book.”….??????? Hmmmmm…who said that?
Sounds a bit like bashing to me...
In a recent thread Luke S (a Dodge dealer) said:
“I just like the G56 better. I like the lower 6th gear. I don't want to add a box as we sometimes gross over 35k and I have seen bad things happen grossing that much weight and pouring more coals to her. Also, we have been seeing a few more 6th gear and reverse syncro problems than I'd like come through the shop lately on the NV5600's. I may eat my words later, but right now I like the G56 better. We have one with over 30k pulling miles and no problems, these are not commuting miles. I am talking max GCWR or that plus 10 or 15k. I think the G56 shifts nicer, especially under heavy loads. The aluminum case doesn't bother me so much. I have seen some of the ZF's go 300k plus without opening them and they are aluminum, the clutches, that is another matter. Knock on wood I have seen no flywheel or clutch problems with the new Dual mass set-up on the Dodge, and I have sold a bunch of em.”
I’m guessing Luke has sold/driven hundreds of each so I’ll give his opinion a bit more weight.
Like I said, when I see a lot of failures in normal use I’ll get concerned.

I like the nv I have been using it for about a week and it seems to be a good tranny It doesnt shift as good as the g56s did before they puked but it still isnt bad and I really like the 6th gear ratio. The dual mass flywheel tells you that chrysler knows the g56 is a weaker tranny. Ive got two hooks on the nv and it seems to be a little faster in 2nd gear so i like that also. Anyone need a good case for a g56 i got one laying around here.

I've got one of each in my Rams - '98 w/49RE and '05 w/G56 - they're both great, just different... I do prefer my 6-spd most of the time though.

When I hear about a bunch of G56’s going south in everyday
