PourinDiesel if you want to do something constructive meet me in montana next July. Their is a truck pull where they pull a 10,000 pound trailer up the mountain for a mile. The Duramax has won every year For some reason only auto dodges show up.

I dont much care for the G56 either, I had one go out in my 05 dually at only 19,000 miles. I was just getting off the interstate when the whole thing locked up. I was at about 50 mph and the whole rear end of the truck locked up. It completly shattered the clutch, and messed up the DMF. I now have an 03 with a 5600 and im much more happy. Thats just my story. Joel

Watch the video closely you can only see the 2 or 3 grey weights that I havent painted black yet.
All of my other video's I usually only have about 400 hanging to meet the 8000lb rule.

Yes sir, when the tranny locked up it locked up the rear wheels, and i skid to a stop, It would have killed the engine but the clutch blew too. It scared the heck out of me. I dont really remember much more I wasnt at all expecting something like that and it happend so fast that it took a second before I even knew what was going on.

Who inspected/repaired it to assess the cause and extent of the damage?
Can you fill out your sig with your '03 driver?

Nothing in the tranny was fine, it was completly trashed. The Dodge dealer i got the truck from did the warranty work, no questions asked, (Ive got one of the good ones). I ended up trading it in about a month later. I no longer needed a dually, and i found a really nice 03 with only 30k. Having owned both I like the 03 much better, gets better fuel economy, it has no long cranking problems, seems to even have more power, and I prefer the 5600 to the G56, it rattles a little more but its a proven tranny.

I have an 05 with the nv5600 and 2 of my friends have 06's with the g56 we decided to race stock for stock and it seems in about 5th gear I pull away on them pretty good I don't know the difference in the gearing between the 2 but it feels like the nv is certainly the better tranny for the cummins. Also in a sled pull this year I have the the edge juice on my truck and my other friend with the 06 has the crazy larry. we pulled back to back both using 3rd low on stock clutchs I used the 100 horse setting on the edge he used crazzy larry and I pulled over 13 feet farther then him and I mean our trucks are identical same toolbox same tires everything except for the tranny. Not saying the g56 are junk I just personally think a cast iron case is better than an aluminum one. By buddy also says when the clutch gets hot it is very hard to shift his truck I don't know if anybody else has had this problem or not.

I have learned alot from this thread...
It takes an nv about 70-200k miles to fail...
But the G-unit fails in 70-200 miles...
