G-56 Release or Not; I bailed out

Well sort of anyway. Despite my best effort to keep the faith, after so much uncertainty about the G-56 and the fact that DC wouldn't even return my dealer's calls , I asked him to find me an earlier 2005 with the NV5600. As it turned out he was already so frustrated by DC's reticence that he'd already been looking. He found one that is almost identical to what I'd ordered about 500 miles away in Alberta. The only major differences are that this truck is grey with a charcoal interior rather than molten red and taupe, and it lacks the side airbags, but I can easily live with that for the peace of mind afforded by having the proven driveline and possibly the benefit of slightly better fuel milage with the more favourable OD ratio. The new truck will be put on a transport and should be here next week. I hope to pick it up on the 29th after giving them a few days to install the exhaust brake and polish it up nice and shiny.

Specs on my truck are: 2005 3500 SLT Quad CTD 325/610 2WD DRW NV5600 6-speed with 3.73's

I suppose that, now that the hold is supposedly lifted, I could go back to my original order but at this point that's not my intention. I've got until Saturday until I'll actually sign off on the replacement so if anyone would care to comment on the choice of these two trucks I'd be glad to hear your opinion.

Thanks,

Dave

My dealer said the cut off for an 05 is April 29. I wonder if the model change and the Max cab are the reason for an earlier cut off? Of is that the norm for ordering now? I remember you could order into July before.

I showed the dealer that new look of the trucks for 06 and they had never seen or heard of it.
Still no diesel Liberty on the ground there either.

I bailed too. I should have my truck next week. It's patriot blue/silver and has more options than I had originally ordered. The reported cluctch failures and a lack a information about the hold is what did it for me. I made sure I got a NV-5600 while there was still a few choiced left

They've been in KY for over 5 or 6 weeks now.

I bought jy 2005, 3500, CTD, 6 speed on April 1, 05. How do I tell if it has this tranny and what are the problems with it.

Peek under your truck and if the transmission is rusted cast iron it is the nv5600.

No need to get under the truck. Reverse on the G56 is to the left and down by 2nd gear on the stick. Reverse on the NV5600 is to the right and up by 5th gear on the stick

Congratulations on your truck.

There may be very little, or nothing wrong with the G56, or there could be serious issues. There has been quite a bit of discussion here and on the Turbo Diesel Register so you may wish to look over earlier posts. Its been suggested that there may be a problem with the dual mass flywheel or the rear bearing and now some sources in DC are saying its no more than a low oil or ecm flash issue. That something isn't quite right became apparent a couple of weeks ago when DC quarrentined all of the trucks on order but provided no explanation. Personally, I didn't want to pay $40K (Canadian $$) for an unproven truck so I opted for one with and earlier build date and with the well known NV5600.

LMFAO

How would an ECM flash fix the manual transmission that doesn't have any electrical connections?

I know you mean low oil in the trands, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear them blame it on low oil in the engine too. All else fails and we'll just blame it on the engine.

Rear bearing was the culprit, but regardless I bought one of the last NV's too.
