G-56 Fluid Change
I am going to be switching my 05 4x4 truck fluids. I will be running Amsoil products in my truck except oil I run Schaeffer oil. What I want to know is what to run in the G-56 and Transfer case? I will be running SevereGear in the front and rear diffs. I have also want to know the fluid capites of the diffs, G-56, transfercase. If anyone has a link to that stuff as I have search for a while and have found a bunch of different if so help me get it straight.

Maybe someone on this forum can try RP and give a test report.

I just ordered Redline C+ ATF for my G56 and transfer case. In an abundance of caution, I called Redline tech support as well just to make sure this would be okay for my truck and they said it would work great, and in fact is superior to the Mopar ATF+4.

I just ordered a case of the stuff (12 quarts). From what I've read, it sounds like the G65 takes roughly 6 quarts and the transfer case takes a bit over 2 quarts. We'll see how much comes out of them when I change the fluids. I'm hoping it's simple like most other gearboxes--just keep pouring it in until it starts running back out the fill hole, then plug it back up and call it done! Hopefully I don't have to tilt my truck to get an extra pint in there.

I cant remember if this applies to the G56 or not but I have heard of some people draining the fluid out and then when they go to put the fluid in realize that they dont have the proper size socket or torx to open the fill hole, so you have an empty tranny till you can get the right tool.
Just a heads up.

Thanks, that's a lesson I learned many moons ago--ALWAYS remove the fill plug before removing the drain plug!
Whatever size/type fastener it is, I shouldn't have a problem. My toolbox has about every tool for every fastener known to man. If not, I've been known to just chuck-up some metal stock in my lathe or mill and make my own tools.

Follow up: I finally changed fluids in my G56 and transfer case with Red Line C+ ATF. I checked fluid levels from the fill holes prior to dumping them. My transfer case took just over 2 quarts to bring it back to its original level of about .5" below the fill hole. My G56 was filled right to the threads of the fill hole from the factory, but no extra (none came dripping out when I removed the fill plug but the level was right to the top), and filling it back to that level with Red Line took 6 quarts, plus just a tad extra (maybe an extra 250mL). I bascially just filled it until it started dribbling back out the fill hole then put the plug back in (which is the way all gearboxes should be designed!). My G56 shifts even smoother now with the Red Line C+ ATF.
