FYI fuel leak

I had a fuel leak after I added a fuel pressure gauge. It leaked around the pipe threads on the line to the pressure sensor. I fixed those leaks with yellow teflon tape or so I thought.

After I added a Fass 95 fuel pump I began to to smell and notice that I had a very small leak and I have been looking for it for sometime. I could find fuel on the sensor line and at the banjo bolt. Thought that was where the leak was. Not enough to drip but enough for me to smell. It seemed that the leak was caused by the increased fuel pressure from the new pump, 10psi to 18psi.

Found it today. The leak was at the top of the OE filter. Torqued it down a little more but did not stop the leak. Replace the filter and gasket. No more leak.

if you are running stock plastic filter cap, that much pressure is going to make it leak. get an aluminum one

Thanks cbrahs.

I didn't think on the increased pressure on the cap, figures out to be around 100 lbs. pressure on it. Thats a lot for a plastic cap. An aluminum cap should not destort under the pressure but what about the plastic threads on the canister. Think they will hold that pressure?

I could bypass the OE filter as I have added extra filtration, but would like to keep it in the line.

The only aluminum cap I can locate is at Geno's. Do you know of another?

Where are you getting your 100psi number? The canister and lid see only fuel pressure. Many run upwards of 30 psi fuel pressure through the stock canister/lid with no problems or leaks.

The total pressure on the lid is 18psi (Pounds per Square Inch)

I did not measure the diameter of the cap I just guessed at 4 to 5 inches.

if 4" then the formula is radius squared x pi x psi or

2 x 2 x 3.1416 x 18 = 226 lbs. pressure on the lid.

My around 100 was roughly figuring in my head and was incorrect.
