Funny Squeak when Shutting Down
Every time I shutdown my diesel it makes a funny squeak like a belt slips or something. This is a brand new 2500 with the 600 and only 3,400 miles.
Anyone else experienced this?

I once looked at a 95 Dodge Cummins mush box at a dealer. It was a used truck. I started it and it blew a little white smoke. When I shut it down, the belt did not squeak. I told the sales person that I was not interested in the truck. He asked why? I told him I thought the engine was shot because the belt did not squeak. He said what???
The truck disappeared off the lot the next day.

When I first bought my truck used with 95K on it, it would only squeak about once a week at shutdown. Now, for some strange reason, it squeaks almost every time I shut down and it now has 132K on it. Not sure what the deal is, as I would think it would always squeak?

Waylan,
Sounds like it is time to change the belt.
The autos squeak much more than than the 6 speeds because of the heavier flywheel and pressure plate won't let the crank shaft stop as fast.
I was told to change to a "gator belt" if it bothered me that bad (I guess that is an after market belt that doesn't squeak). I didn't change it and just got used to the sound.

Some do it, some don't. My Powerstroke did it, and the original belt on this truck did it. That belt shredded at 5400 miles, and the Mopar replacement, which is ribbed and crosshatched, only does it ocassionally. Yes, it is normal, but it does strain the belt, which is why I think some of us have had shredding problems. If your belt is weak or substandard, the chirp (which is the belt slipping on the pullies) will make it go before it's time.
