fuel water seperator

hello, <br><br>i am a new user to this site and a proud owner of a 2003 3500 ram quad cab. i have a quick question which may sound stupid. how often should i check the fuel/water seperator? since this is the first diesel i have owned i am looking for all the info i can get my hands on. <br><br>thank you in advance to anyone that replies!

The manual, for mine anyway, says to check every fillup.<br>Not really necessary unless you're getting fuel at a questionable station.<br><br>I check mine once a month if I'm lucky.<br>Have yet to have any water come out, or have the WIF light come on.<br><br><br>phox

I'm on the same sked as Phox. I've found that mine won't drain often with the key off, so sometimes I have the key on, engine off to get anything to drain from it.<br><br>I only drained it once into a glass to check for water (my first time) just to do it. After that I usually just let it tinkle onto the ground at the fuel docks as a preventative maintenance. I've never had the WIF light illuminate either; if I did, I'd drain it into a glass for inspection.
