600

You might want to change your profile to show your true engine spec to 2004.5. the 2004 was the 555. Also, what was the build date on your truck?

600 Good Mileage

I just wanted some of you guys to know that some of the 600's are getting what I would call decent mileage. I have almost 5,000 on mine and the last 2 tanks were just under 20 and just over 20 mpg. Mine was built on 1/14/04 and the engine is dated to sometime in December, forgot the exact day. I do have a light foot but I've noticed that the mileage has increaced since new from about 17.5 to somewhere between 19 and 20 on average. Everything on my truck stock. I'm not complaining and just letting everyone know that not all the 600's are getting bad mileage.

Stock includes 2500 ST QC 4x4 LWB 6speed 3.73 axle, tow package, 245/70/17 tires. was also tested at dealer for block coolant problem and passed test.

PS. because it's an ST it doesn't have computer console. All mileage has been hand calculated from day one when I picked up.

How about a little more about what 'stock' includes, 2500 or 3500, 4x4 or 4x2, SRW or DRW, auto or six-speed, 3.73 or 4.10?

Ok, you guys made me stand out in the rain to get this info. I am sorry that it took me so long, but I had a last minute trip out of town.

My engine build date on the engine cover is 1-30-04.

The dealer put a sticker on the hood that says that my vehice has been modified with:

20325251AFX0AG

Now, the 1 could be an I, but that is not typical, and the ZERO could be an O.

My receipt has no information on it.

When I went to the dealer I explained my mileage concern and asked about a TSB# that I got from this sight. He checked and told me that the TSB was for an engine miss, not fuel mileage. Anyway, he checked my ECM with the scan tool, said I needed the update, and now I get better mileage.

I have been driving the truck really hard the last 2 days after I filled up (wide open in every gear till I reach 70), and have had extended idling and quite a bit of city driving and the overhead still read 16-16.5 (3-4 better than I was getting in the same conditions). The truck has 1300 miles on it now.

I hope this helps. I will had calculate after this tank. I am very confident that on the highway it would get 19-20.

Thanks Jeremy!

Sorry you had to stand out in the rain to get the info... we owe you a cold one for that! So far, I think you're the only one I've seen on this board that has had anything done by the dealer that has actually helped the mileage. So, those of us getting lousy mileage are very grateful for this information.

Time to start pressing my dealer for info regarding "20325251AFX0AG"...

WHAT???

What do they do with that number? and what is a reflash? When I just got out of my truck it said I was getting 12.5 MPG's, if this keeps up, I will never buy a Dodge again, quess I should had kept my ram 1500 5.9 gas! I think we as consumers have a right to get better than 12 mpg when were paying 42 thousand for a pickup!!!!! A friend of mine has a 2001 CTD and gets over 20 mpgs, THIS IS BACKWARDS!!!!

Not a problem. I know that the reflash wasn't for fuel mileage, just for the hesitation issue. Helped mine though

Mileage on an '01 will be better than the 04.5. That is the main issue with everyone's fuel mileage concern. I am sure that you will read more about it if you do a search.

I hope that others can have similar results. Just another update, I was showing around 10-11 when towing. Now with the same trailer and load I am showing 15.8-16. WAY BETTER. Truck keeps getting more powerful everytime I hook up. I can't wait till 20K or so.

I find it interesting (sad actually) that all of us who have asked our dealers about TSB's for this issue have gotten about the same response... the dealer does a vin scan on his computer and says the truck needs nothing... yet when one of them finally gets off their lazy a$$ and plugs in a scan tool to the ECM, bingo! they find that it needs to be updated. Could it be that a bunch of our trucks never got the update, but their database shows them as done?

I was at the dealership waiting for my truck. I think they should have consulted with me before writing it up and leaving the cashier to do the explaining.

I find it more than annoying that the owner needs to do the dealers leg work. I do miss the service I got on my Toyota Highlander. If I was waiting for the service a service rep came and talked to me before it was written up. They washed my vehicle every time it was in for service, even a simple recall.

The TSB I found on this forum covers my engine. The service slip said that nothing was done because the tech could not repeat the engine miss I reported.

There is an awful lot about this I don't know, but I do know that I called the service manager at the dealership today and he seemed as though he wanted to be helpful. He said that they would be happy to try and see if my truck would 'take the reflash'.

On another subject I ask again about daytime running lights and told him what I had read online. He said that he had never had a request for that before and never heard of doing it, but that if I had some idea of how to do it they would try. So...when I get back from DC I am going to make an appointment and try them again.

With about 800 miles on the truck I am getting almost 17 on my last fillup. My build date is 3/16/04 and the engine date I believe is 3/10. During breakin I did hit it hard a couple of times. Don't know if that makes a difference but hit 90 once and then about 99 another time. Didn't check mileage then as I was on my way to fuel up as I had just left the dealer. The engine just keeps getting smoother and the tranny is also shifting smoother every day.

sawood,
I haven't had it done yet, but am hoping to soon. I'm trying to wait a little bit so that I can group it in with an oil change (freebie from the dealer) and get my speedo adjusted all at the same time. I'll definitely keep you posted as to the outcome...
