kjw,

Sounds just like mine did around 7500 miles. #6 injector was leaking and replaced. Mileage maybe improved a little after, but with my driving habits and Houston traffic kinda hard to tell. I have 21,000 miles now and empty with 315s, 48re, 3.73 gears and mostly Houston traffic driving I get around 14mpg. Get 16.5-17mpg on the road if I stay under 75. Try some Power Service and MMO additive. It seems to have helped mine.

Welcome to Houston, Texas! Yep there are two driving conditions for most of the "drivers" here. Floored with a cell phone stuck out of your ear or brakes locked with cell phone stuck out of your ear. They just dont know how hard it is to stop 7000+lbs.

Great to see this post being ive been having the same delima

At first i suspected colder temps. but it never did it during the winter, so i was like well humph. But one day i heard what sounded like an electric fuel pump maybe. kinda got me curious. So is there an electric pump that primes the fuel rail?

What causes the white smoke though? If there was excess fuel in the cyl wouldnt you get black smoke?

Also, Is there anywhere you can get the service program they have at the dealership? Id like to watch the engine before the techs get ahold of the thing

I contacted them today and they are loading a new software dowload in addition to the one they loaded 2 months ago... I do not think that this is the problem... The are going to keep it all week and see what happens... More to come...

When my truck was running right, it would start at 20 degrees @5000 ft at my fathers house in Nevada with out running rough or white smoke. It would have a little condensation but that's it. Interestingly enough it was also the #6 injector. I already had the reflash, I had replaced the fuel filter & air filter, and I have run PS or Stanadyne PF since day one.

Stay on them and tell them to let it sit over night before starting it. I believe they need to run an "injectoer kill test" to identify the bad injector(s). I've also heard of the tech removing the exhaust manifold, letting the truck sit over night, and watch to see which cylinder is smoking on start up. Don't let them give you the "too much idle time" BS.

Ram_in_Texas is right, stay after them. My first day kill tests and other tests did not show anything out of spec. I made them keep the truck over night and start it in the morning and then tell me nothing was wrong. They agreed in the morning that something was wrong. Actually Star instructed them to remove the exhaust manifold to determine which injector(s) was leaking. I have seen post with people having 1 to 6 bad injectors replaced.

update from the dealer

Well, the dealer still has the truck and ofater the second software update and one day off sitting, the tech started the truck and it sill had the same problems. Now, they are convinced it is an injector problem and will be replacing injector(s) Monday morning. They have had the goat all week and I told them to keep it and try to duplicate the problem and they did even after the second software update that was just released this last week... So, I guess that we will see what happens this week...
