fuel (lubrication) additive, good/bad?

there are some posts on here about the BOSCH study, and the referenced PowerPoints indicate that US diesel is severely lacking in lubrication,

seems to indicate that pump failures (pic's in the powerpoint) are to be blamed not on poor build quality, but poor fuel quality.

what to do? i stopped at a big truck stop, and at ADVANCE, but did not find any specific lubrication additive, so I got the LUCAS "lubricating cleaner"

North American diesel fuel is not up to the quality it should be, or that we should be accepting.
