Question Fuel line

Was on the way to work and noticed a strong diesel smell when I parked. When I got out fuel was leaking on the groung pretty good. I opened the hood and it was smoking. After I decided it wasn't going to burst into flames I had it towed to my dealer. They said the tube to the #4 injector was leaking. $229 to repair, not a warranty item at 45K. They returned the tube to me and I've looked it over and see no signe of cracking or any holes.
I can see that they replaced the tube on the engin.
Is this something to be concerned about with the other high pressure injector tubes? Has this happened to anyone else? Is it possable for the fuel to ignite on the hot engin? Scarry to me!
It seems like an easy fix if I knew more about the highpressure fuel system so as not to get hurt or worse. The part it's self was $57.
Any thoughts?

I have heard of this happening before, but never seen any catch fire. I wouldnt loose any sleep over it.

Charging you 2hrs labor to do a feed line is a little steep though...

It was accually 1.5 hrs.
Looked like a fifteen minuit job to me, if you have the high pressure knowlage. They also said that included all testing. whatever that means?

Unhappy

Cummins warranty stats "fuel pumps and Injectors" nothing about fuel lines. Same on the extended warranty. The dealer said they check warranty items by part #'s. It seems as though only high $ items are covered.

Water pump, engine seals all, fuel heaters, grid heater, freeze plugs and the list goes on.I'd bet $100 bucks that the injector lines are covered. It is a ENGINE and FUEL SYSTEM WARRANTY.Lots of these items are NOT high dollar.

New fuel lines are thicker wall, less likely to leak then older ones. I'll check in morning with service writer to make sure that it is covered part.

There's nothing in my owners manual under Cummins or Dodge fuel system warranty that says fuel lines. it only says fuel pump's and injectors. Maybe they changed it for my model year.

Thats what my book says, Fuel injection pump and injectors, nothing about fuel lines.

Yeah right!!!!!! Is that why I had to tell them what was wrong with my engine when I had an injector problem. I posted on here when they could not find what was wrong and the guys on here told me what to tell them, which I did. Did they believe me, no. Them Cummins came back and told them what to check and how to do it. Guess what, injector problem!!!!!!
