Fuel Leak... Need Help/Advice

I have a fuel leak that is coming from the front drivers side of the engine. There are two fuel lines coming into what I think is the lift pump (not sure). The leak is right in that area.

Here are some pictures.

If anyone has an idea of what most likely is causing the leak, please let me know.

looks like the CP3 (injector pump) not the lift pump.
mine was done under warranty... I think Bosch had a bad run of pumps.

You are correct that is the dreaded leaking CP3 injection pump. I just had the second replacement last week (original plus two). It is covered under the Cummins 7/100k warranty. There is a deductible of $100 after the truck has been in service for 5 years. There have recently been reports some dealers are charging the $100 deductible if the 3/36K warranty has been surpassed. Wrong!

Thanks for the info. Once I knew what it was, I was able to find tons of info about it. I have a dealer appt at 10am tomorrow.

My truck is only 1 year old, so the deductable shouldn't apply.

Correct, no deductible until in service for five years. I am just trying to get the word out because some unscrupulous dealers are charging the $100 deductible if the 3/36K warranty has been exceeded. It is covered under the Cummins 7/100K as stated in the warranty information booklet that came with the truck.

I'm over the 3/36 on mileage, so we'll have to see what they say when I bring it in. I have page 406 of the owners manual dogeared for the visit!

Well, you beat me to this post. I noticed the SAME danged thing this morning, and dropped it at my dealer. I guessing I'll need a new pump as well.

By the way, what is involved in replacing this thing? It seems from the location that quite a bit needs to come off the engine to get to it?

Is it just me or does it seem that there has been a lot of CP3 issues recently? What is going on? Bad fuel? Bad pump? Poor quality? This is not good. I better get down there and check mine.

I just checked mine and at 28K miles, it's dry as a bone. I hope those with issues get them resolved quickly.

Based on what I have read about this, I think it is poor quality/engineering. There are too many variables in vehicle usage, fuel, additives, mods, etc. to isolate it and say "It is failing because...". The only consistentency I see is that it is happening in colder parts of the country.

Once I knew what I was looking at, it was amazing the amount of threads on this and other sites about this problem. Just search "CP3 leak". You can read for hours.

The 3rd gens too? I thought the 2nd gens were the only ones with injector pump failures

Not nearly as many problems as the VP44.

And its not actually failed like the VP44 which left you stranded. It's a leak.

Big problem, yes.

Still not as bad as the 2nd gen vp44's.

Here is the outcome:

Took it Monday. They said they needed it overnight to determine if it was a leak or seepage. Tuesday they called and said it was definitely leaking and they needed to replace the CP3. They told me that since I was over 36k there was a $100 deductible. I told them they were mistaken about the deductible, that the Cummins had a 100000/5yr no deductible warranty. They conceded. It will be fixed by Friday.

Now the fun part. While I was there, I traded for a 2006 Megacab
How's that for fixing the problem.
