Fuel fliter

I went to drain my fuel canister no fuel came out so I went back look on this forum and read about the TSB and how to purge the line..I did that and still no fuel when the valve is open...

The dealer said that new fuel system will not allow fuel to be drain out of canisters like the older models, Is this right?

I guess I could drain it all the way flipping the switch back and forth till it is empty

You should get some water/fuel out of the canister when you open the valve. If you don't you can turn the key on but DON't start the engine and then open the drain valve and you should get some fuel/water out of the filter. You may want to check exactly where the drain hose is because they may have changed where it drains to.

Shouldn't I be able to drain the canister fully without the key being turn, by just flipping the valve on should do this right?

Not sure what year you're ride is, but I open the valve and it flows freely, without the key on. Sounds like the valve or the seperator is plugged up.

Just changed out my filter today. Fuel drained no-problem on my 03. Took a while to drain out, but the canister holds alot of fuel. Easy change, took a while for the canister to fill up enough to start, but after letting the fuel pump run for about 2 min, she started. And the mileage jumped back up to 20 mpg from 18.5 according to the overhead. 13K on the old filter and man, was it black! Glad I got it changed out. Oh, and what a shock! The filter that came out (from the factory) said "Fleetguard Stratopore"! And there I was hoping it would say Mopar I almost kept it for the next time a Dodge service tech told me the ONLY filters approved are Mopars!-Steve

Wasn't there a TSB about the drain being clogged with grease on some engines? I would imagine if you cycle the key to build pressure in the fuel filter canister that you would evventually be able to get it to drain with no problem.

Vacuum lock??? Have most people extended this hose so it can actually drain directly into a container? Mine has to find a path through the frame to drain and I locate the large pan under the area where most of the fuel is drippping. It is really annoying that another simple thing goes by.
Check out my guages that took the place of the cubby hole I had filled-w-unwanted trash (I can't help being a slob-but I get my truck cleaned at least twice/week)

no extension needed, rest a 20oz. soda bottle on the front punkin, and stick the hose in it, proceed to drain

Mine flows pretty good without the engine on just flipping the lever. Flows even better with the starter bumped after a filter change according to my son and the concrete driveway.
