Fuel Filter - Quick Question
I know it's been beat to death, but i've been tryin to search for the past 15 minutes and keep getting a
"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 50331648 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 35 bytes) in /opt/www/html/dev/search.php on line 1033"
error. so i'm just gonna ask.
what's the difference between the OE fuel filter and the Fleetguard FS19856?
Are they both 7 mic filter? If not, are there any mods i'd have to do to use the Fleetguard or just drop it in like the OE.
Thanks for the help in advance.. and sorry for beating this horse some more!

Not sure of the part number but you can compare it to the part number at Genosgarage. I did and they are the same. It is the same as the factory filter. No modding needed.

If when you say, "OE" you mean Mopar, than no, those two filters aren't rated the same. The Mopar is 10 microns while the Fleetguard you list is rated at 7. But, you don't want to use either of those filters. Look into buying a Baldwin PF7977 filter, it's rated at 5 microns absolute and it'll fit in the stock fuel filter housing without any modification. If you run the other filters than you risk causing excess wear on the injectors, because their lack of filtration will cause smaller particles to get through the filter media and then be fed into your injectors. With the high pressure of the common rail injection system, that high pressure will cause the small particles to do to your injectors what sandblasting does to rust. Eventually the tips of your injectors will wear out. By that time, you'll have to drop some serious coin for some new ones, when it could have been prevented with a $10 part.

Thanks guys! Thats the info i was looking for... I wasnt sure the smallest micron (10,7,5....) i could safely use, with out having to modify anything.
