Fuel filter change

I have been changing the fuel filter on my 04 for ever. I had the strangest thing happen. I got a fuel filter from Dodge this week and for the life of me I couldn’t get the lid down on the canister. This is usually a 10 minute job I am wondering if they gave me the wrong filter. I finally put the old filter back in to get me through the weekend. Its like the filter it is too tall.

Anyone else have this happen?

I have only replaced the filter a few times but I bought a case of fleetguard fuel filters from Genos and haven't thought much about it since.

Did you compare the Dodge replacement filter with your old one and if so how did it compare?

its a different part number and looks a bit different. no impression on the top part that goes into the cap. i have been told that this part number is the replacement for the old one.

I am going by memory (which is not best), but I think the filter snaps into the lid. So take the lid back off and then try snapping the filter into the lid and then install.

You are correct. Thats the way I have been doing it for 80k on this motor. The threads just won’t catch on the lid and I am sure the filter is in correctly. I’m going to get a fleetgaurd filter and give it another stab on Saturday.

When you take it apart again drain the housing completely and look at the bottom of the stand pipe. I have read of the rubber seal on the bottom of the filter coming off and staying on the stand pipe. If that occurred the new filter would not go in because the old seal would be in the way.

Do you have the stock filter canister top? I have heard that some filters will not fit with certain aftermarket canister tops.

Did you make shore you got the old gasket off ? You can cross check the # and see if it is the right one then check the filter to see if it has the same # as the box. They could had put the wrong filter in the box.
