Put a mix of 4oz. of two cycle low ash oil and 8oz. of mmo to tank of fuel. I seen a post that ask if mmo had sulfer in it and I look at the gal. bottle and it had a sticker on it that said that it contained sulfer.

I use fuel additives because I think the minimum lubricity standard for ULSD is too low (max scar diameter of 520 microns based on High Frequency Reciprocating Rig test method).

Sure the engine will be fine. I'm more worried about the CP3 and injectors. Will they wear prematurely? I don't know. I expect it's probably only the difference between getting 150,000 miles on the engine (and pump/injectors) and 300,000 miles. Most people won't care, but I had my last truck for fifteen years, and I plan on keeping this one a good long time too.

We should have had the ULSD limit match Europe's 460 microns HFRR limit (more lubricity). Bosch seemed happier, and they should know what's better for injector pumps.

I've been using the John Deere Winter combined with 8 oz of MMO for the last 3 tanks. Can't get the Stanadyne easily around me would have to order online. I can get the John Deere just down the street and according to the Stanadyne report they are almost equal.
Truck definitely idles smoother and quieter but my mileage has dropped off some. Could be the winter fuel switch over at the same time I started using the additive. I have 3500 miles total on her so far.

I noticed a slight drop in fuel mileage when using the Stanadyne (summer months). I think someone said something about it being a result of higher cetane? I also use Hess which has a minimum of 42 cetane.

I use primrose Flow-Master 409 on the really coldest tanks and 405 on the rest. Most of the time here in N Texas the 405. It doesn't get cold much here.

Get it here http://store.avlube.com/addiga.html

Wow, all this info and choices to make. Me I stay away from MMO and 2 stroke, just use an additive like stanadyne, power service, or howes. it will do fine. In fact im sure it will be ok with out an additive. says in your owners manual your engine doesnt need it. but what does cummins know? I saw in some other posts that alot of guys started to use 2 stroke because of the vp44. our trucks dont have that. Also im wondering if a dealer knew that 2 stroke or mmo has been used and would not fix a failed fuel sytem part because of that? any experiance with that? just wondering?? ive read that they wont fix sometimes if water is found in fuel system.

Luke S your a dealer. have you ever heard of warranty work problems if other than normal fuel additives are used and a part fails?

I don't feel the need for any additives here in texas...also can't justify the extra cost if the additive doesn't improve mpg. According to various sources the ULSD has plenty of lubricity for pre 07 engines.

I use about 8 oz of Power Service per fill up. I buy it by the gallon at Walmart and measure out into a smaller container for fill-ups. The truck seems to run a bit smoother with it. Plus I like the peace of mind thinking it might be helping the truck live longer.

IIRC back in the 70's they said unleaded gas would not cause any problems with the older engines that used lead in the gas and yet it sure did screw up the valve train in many cars and truck. I’ll play it safe and add extra lube to every tank of fuel as I sure don't trust what they have to say. Are these not the same people who screw us back in the 70's with the gas change over? My self I get and extra 1-2 mpg with additives so it pays for it’s self in my case any way.

Oh and BTW trans fluid should not be used in a newer diesel engine as it can screw up the injectors. Yes you could use it back in the older diesel engine but it shold not be used with the Bosch cp3 system.

I use Amsoil Diesel fuel concentrate and it works great. I've used it in my '92, '96, '99, '02 &'03; all past 100,000 without any fuel related problems. Also I NEVER go anywhere with out Amsoil Cetane Boost since I got caught with some bad fuel in New Mexico 2 years ago. 4 oz in a tank full and my power and mileage were right back to normal.
