AHA,
I will try again. I have been under my truck 3 times looking for this needle grease fitting at the double UJoints.

I found it!!

It's on the short stubby shaft you can barely see BETWEEN the two rear u-joints. A little flat machined hole that angles towards you. Will try to take a picture and post.

Found mine too, made it a little easier when I took the skid plate off. Pretty easy to do all in all just more of a pain than anything.

I still cannot find it. I have looked all over where the 2 rear u joints are and the shaft. My truck is a 2006 2500 4x4, maybe it does not have this recessed fitting.

I was going to try and get a better picture, but it is real tough with that rock guard in the way, and I am too lazy to remove. The fitting is real hidded behind a metal portion of the front u-joint. You need to look for the mentioned 1" shaft right in the middle of the double u-joint arrangement. The shaft runs in the same direction as the drive shaft, front to back. The fitting is only on one side, that facing the front of the truck. The picture below shows a halfmoon circle in the middle. It is right below and a little to the left of that "****" that stands out toward the top middle of the picture. Right in the center of that circle is the hole. Like said earlier, it is a machined surface and is real shiny if clean (this picture is not clean) with a little ball bearing in the center of the hole.

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS GETTING LUBED INSIDE THE INTERMEDIARY JOINT?

I don't understand where the moving parts are in that component...

Isn't it just a solid piece that connects the two u-joints ??

Does the spline shaft slide thru it or what ??

Thanks HOUTEX....

It's a "Double Cardan" CV joint.

Here's the best picture I can come up with. It is the shiny circle with the tiny hole in the middle. Good luck.

I put in way too much. Didn't think it was going in but just squeezing out around the fitting. Turned the drive shaft 180 degrees and saw grease oozing out all around. Hope I didn't blow a seal. In the future, I would only put in about 2 squirts, but I am no expert on how many. Maybe someone else is smart on this.

I did the same thing because I wasn't sure the NAPA needle was seated properly. I think I got about 5-6 pumps squirted in that stupid hole.

Could not get to it this weekend due to weather, I am out of town for 2 weeks and will resume the hunt for the hidden spot.
I really feel that this fitting is not on my truck
Frank that is a great picture, thanks, I know what I should see but I just don't .
Later,
Laurence

No grease required on my 04.5. Not sure of thats a good thing or not. I have no idea why some trucks have them and some don't. Is it a model year type thing? like the 05's with a plastic intercooler that have since switched back to metal. Without any doubt, my truck does not have a greaseable CV.

I just took a few minutes to look at the model year of everybody who posted in this thread. 04 owners all cannot find the location, 05 and up owners all have found the location. There is a sticker on the 05's and up under the hood which says this cv has to be greased. 04 trucks do not have this sticker. I would hazzard to say this. 04, 04.5 trucks have a CV that does not require grease, it is obviously a sealed unit from the factory. The reason you can't find it is because it is not there.
