Front Hub Removal

The left front axle ujoint went out on me. So I got to work replacing it. If you have done this before you know what I am talking about here, I got to the removal of the wheel bearing and hub and it wouldnt budge. For two days I beat on it with a slide hammer to no avail. I searched this forum and found a post by forum member MR. GADGET on how to remove the hub assembly. Using his tip I removed my hub assembly in about 20 minutes, THANK YOU MR. GADGET.

MR. GADGETs tip was to loosen the hub bolts and back them out about half way. Using sockets and the steering as a hydraulic press by pressing on the bolts with the sockets wedged between the bolt and the frame of the truck. Like MR. GADGET stated just make sure that you do it slow and evenly on both sides of the hub so it comes out evenly. I cannot find the post that I found MR. GADGETs step by step guide on how to remove the axle ujoint, all with pictures, but if you look maybe you can find it. Good luck to all who attempt this and I hope my response to MR. GADGETs tip helps you out.

Yea, I hear both of you LOL, 1985 I found the hub puller adapter at a local machine shop and got lucky being able to rent it for $5.00 and I think I used enough anti-seize on that hub for ten hubs LOL. Its not funny but I am happy to see that I am not the only one who was going nuts trying to remove it.
