Front Driveshaft Flange Bolts???

Anyone have any suggestions on removing the torx bolts in the front driveshaft flange? I have broke or bent every torx bit I have tried.

Thanks for any help.

I use Snapon torx drive socket and never had a problem with removing front driveshaft bolts using 3/8 drive impact gun. Blue Locktite is used on these bolts. Make sure any mud and dirt is cleaned out of torx bolt head and give socket a few taps with hammer to make sure.

That sure looks like the way to go. I didn't have one of those but you can get a regular torx socket on these bolts squarely if you unbolt the shaft from the transfer case first and then push that end up and inward. The bottom outside bolt is then accessible; remove and turn shaft 90 degrees and repeat.

a little heat helped me out also with the locktite, I replaced mine with some socket head cap screws that I cut down the heads alittle so they dont bind. (I hate torxs bolts).

+1 on the heat. I used a small handheld propane torch.

+1 on replacing with socket head cap screws... plus lube since I used stainless.

I have already thought about this. When I have to take mine out, I will throw those bolts as far as I can and replace with SHCS. I never have figured out why they would use those in the first place.

Thanks for the input. Getting the snap on long drive torx bits so I can get them darn things out. Will consider replacing them with hex bolts, anyone know what the strength of the bolt should be?

The SHCS will be a grade 8. Also make sure to use some Blue Loc Tite (242 IIRC)
