Front brake calipers... is there a trick to putting them back on?
Sorry guys... been a Looonnnggg time since replacing the front brakes on my truck. I changed out the bearings/hub. Got the rotor back on and compressed the pistons(opened bleeder valve as well). Got the new pads on...
But can not seem to get the caliper to fit on there.
Is there a sequence to get the caliper on??? does the bottom go in and kinda snap in or fit snug & then push the front in??? ti slides over the pads, but does not seems to seat correctly.
Been a while since I had to work on the truck.
2004.5, 2500, 2 WD stock, 296K miles. 4 waterpumps lol

I believe you slip the bottom in first, then the top. Be sure to inspect the rubber grommets to make sure that they are not in the way or the assembly will not drop in. They they often get caught up on the back of the caliper assembly.

If it has been a few years that they where done you might find the caliper, pistons will not go all the way in as corrosion will build up and form a ring around the piston and if you force them in, your piston will hangup and the shoes will not release ( burn up a rotor) I myself get very long life out of a set of shoes and when the time comes ( soon next few weeks ) i just change out the calipers start the whole thing new again!!!

Another issue may be the old rotors. They often get a high spot of rust around the outer edges that impedes the pads from slipping over that raised edge. You may have to sand that raised edge off.

thanx guys...
It was the rubber grommets thingys. I needed to squeeze them in a little more.
Dieselbuilder... I used a "C" clamp to push them back in while opening the bleeder valve to let the fluid out.
I hope they are not in to bad of shape.
Now that ... "hopefully" found all my blunders... I am ready to do the other side.
