in need of education,...
when i had the front end supported off the ground the other day, i spun one wheel and the other did not turn. went to the drivers side and spun the wheel and the pass. and it didn't turn.
is there something wrong with this differential? why doesn't the wheels spin like on rear axle?

did the drive shaft spin? with your front axle being open (unlike your rear with a LS) both wheels will not always spin together. which ever is the least path of resistance.

 

yes, the drive shaft turned when either wheel was spun. open differential? hmmm? so i have a 3 wheel drive, lol.

Yeah its called a locker or limited slip. If you go with a locker get a selectable one so the truck can maintain proper street manners.

 

the LS is not that tight in these trucks so you actually have a 2 wd that will send all the power to the wheels with the least amount of traction.
like said above you can get a selectable locker for the front and so far i dont anything is offered for the rear yet.

I think it just happened with in the last couple of months. Eaton makes one also but it isn't selectable.

 

Last I checked ARB's unit is NOT available yet for the AAM 11.5. They keep saying "soon".

 

To my knowledge, nobody makes a rear locker for the AAM axle yet.

ARB makes one for the front, though.

 

Summit racing has the Eaton(Detroit) for sale for the 11.5 AAM. It just isn't selectable. For the ARB all it says is available 2009

The Eaton Company that makes the Detroit Truetrac is a limited slip helical gear differential, not a locker.

I don't know why companies have been so slow to develop a rear locker for AAM axles yet...not enough demand?

But the ARB for the front is supposed to work very effectively due to the hefty weight of the mighty Cummins on top of it.

 

I feel that a locked front and a LS rear is a better set up. Then the other way around. What are the axles on the 3rd gen Power Wagon?
