Free JP-8 fuel??

My buddy and I acquired about 2,000 gallons of JP-8 fuel, how would you go about using this in a 610 Cummins...He has a Cummins 400 in his motorcoach and thinks he can run it straight, I have a 610 Cummins, and don't want it to die...what are your thoughts...this is my first post, so be nice...

Jp-8

Used it for years. Be careful of water that may have been dumped with fuel if defueled from aircraft. JP-8 has lower flashpoint & aromatic content than Jet A or diesel & may be a problem in below freezing temperatures. Other than that, it runs great, especially when it is free.

Would adding some Lucas additive or something along those lines be enough to address the lubricity concerns, or would a quart or two of straight motor oil be better?? And thanks for the responses...

Use 2 stroke oil. I wouldn't use crank case oil.

I ran it in the past along with Jet A, the problem that I noticed on my 385 Cat was it would run very hot. We would not run the thing over 3/4 throttle and would have to open the engine compartment doors. Never had a problem with the machine. Can't blame you its free use it, we ran about a year on some Jet A we recovered from MIA.

Is this straight JP8 or has it had +100 or some other additive in it.
Be carefull as JP8 is some of the more harsher fuel on o rings especially if it has +100 additive in it (Winter fuel).

If you search on the net for the CUmmins fuel recomendation it will tell you what you have to do to run it.

Good luck.

i used to work at the airport and we would run jet-A in the fuel trucks. would pump it right out of the tanker into the fuel tank with the overwing hose. ran it for about 5 years with nothing else in it. think its still going and its been 5 years since i left. it was a chevy v-8, not sure what it really was, ran good, never got hot eather. i herd that thay did away with jp-8 for jp-4, and tha tjp-8 was a 50/50 mix of jet-a1 and 100LL, any body in the airforce?

Add at least 5% biodiesel to the JP-8 and you'll be fine lube wise.
