Fleetguard fuel filter looks different?

Purchased a fuel filter from the local cummins shop where I buy all my fuel and oil filters from. When I removed the old filter I noticed that it is different than the new one. The old one has stratapore written on it (the new one has nothing), and the end that goes against the canister cap had an indent, but the new one does not. Might not be a big deal as it does not look like it serves a purpose. Now for the big difference. Inside the stratapore is "metal" with small holes almost like the inside of an oil filter. The new filter does not have any metal inside. The inside has "plastic like grids". The part number on the receipt is the same but the filter makeup is different. The size is the same though. What do you guys think?

same thing for me. Personally, the 10micron looked better constructed.

I just bought a few from Genos... they had a wright up on how they made the filter (same quality) 'more ... HERE IS THE QUOTE>>>

FROM GENOS GARAGE>>"Note: Recently (Summer 2006), Fleetguard ceased production of the FS19579 Fuel Filter used on the 2000 - 2007 Dodge Cummins turbo diesel. This filter was replaced by the new, "user friendly" FS19579E. Nothing about the Stratapore filtration medium was changed. The plastic end caps were changed to a more environmentally-friendly material. Additionally, the end caps are thinner to facilitate installation into and removal from the filter cap. The new filters are not shipped to us in individual boxes. This change in design as well as packaging used has prompted a number of questions from our customers. Hopefully, this note will help explain the changes you will see in this product, but if you have additional questions, please contact us directly at 800.755.1715. This information is also available at http://www.fleetguard.com"

I don't doubt that the filtering media is unchanged, just the end caps went from nice solid metal pieces to thin plastic, was a little strange to see.

On the 7microns I got from Genos, the FS19800 part number is embosed on the end of the filter, hard to see.

the new E fuel filters do look mickey mouse, but they are good filters. the new 10µ filters are constructed the same way as the new 7µ filters...

the media is no longer glued to the end caps. it is melted/bonded to the end caps now. that is an improvement..
