First tank of fuel- average 12.03 mpg
Well, filled the Dodge up for the first time and was a bit suprised. I'm getting the same mpg that I had on my lifted F150(5.4), so I'm a little disappointed. I only have 422 miles on my truck so I hope to see some considerable improvement.
Question: When should I see some improvement in the mpg's?

I believe it improves once the truck worked a bit, or once you hit 15-20K. I'll be coming up on 15 shortly and I'm getting ~ 18 overall now, but I have the stick.
On your sig, you have 46RE, btw.

Just rolled 20k on my 06.....getting 20-21 mpg. Just give it a little time, I was getting about the same mileage as you are when mine was new. It will gradually get better mileage as you put more miles on it.

I've got about 8,000 miles on mine and it's getting 15-16 around town and up to 20 on the highway. That's if I drive normal. Better than my Powerstroke ever did. Mine was between 12-13 after the first tank.

I have just over 13k on mine and avg. 18-19.5 hand calculated. Get to about 1000 miles and hook up a HEAVY trailer and tow for 100-200 miles (more if you can) and it will start to break in a bit faster. This helped mine but all I have is my Jeep on the trailer which = about 6000lbs. From what I hear 8-10000 lbs is best.
HTH and congrats on the new truck!!!

I've now got 1475 miles on my 06. MPG has averaged between 15.5 to 16.3 in a 50/50 mix of city and highway. My overhead comp says it's between 21.5 and 17.8 mpg. The overhead isn't too very accurate.
I'm not babying it, just driving normal. I fully expect it to go up as soon as I drive several hundred miles with a load up on the truck.

Don't worry about it unless you have 30k and your still getting 12.
My dad just bought a new 06 and did the whole "pull the **** out of it" thing after 1000 miles and got 5 mpg on a 400 mile trip ( huge tank with unreal amounts of wind resistance!). Now it is starting to get in the 15-16 area empty at 3,000 miles.
There is light at the end of the tunnel.

I have 16.7k on mine and I am lucky to hit 15mpg's. Even on the highway at 72 (2k rpm) I can only hit about 17.5. My 05 QC same drivetrain configuration (and color to rule out any inconsistencies) would get 21mpg on the highway at the same speeds. That truck only had 18k when I traded it in so I am a bit disappointed in the MPG disparity between the two trucks. Although, the difference in mpg's is made up by the fact my kids cant reach the back of my seat with their little legs now

I have 10,500 on my truck and the overhead is allways in the single digits the best I have seen out of this truck is 13mpg.I had the dealer reflash the computer and it read 14mpg when I left and by the time I got home it was back down to 11.2

My 2006 didn't break in until 25k miles or so. Maybe it's still breaking in, but I doubt it.
16 mpg is as high as it gets, constant use at 60-65 mph, no acceleration or stopping/starting. Go up to 70, it drops to low 15's-14's. If you pull even a small trailer at any point during a tank of fuel, it drops to 12 or less.
These amounts are hand-calculated. The overhead is extremely optimistic. I am pretty disappointed in the mileage this thing produces compared to my previous 3/4 tons, but it is a larger truck.
