THat's awesome- 3.42's and 285's for your preferred setup. You'll probably be quite please when your done and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. I would go with that setup myself- I just have a set of winters in 265 and have been overly please with them. The change to 285's and the gear swing for fron and rear would just be too much.
I see a SBC Con OFE/ FE in my future though....

Maybe I should have went with 75's vs. 70's on the 285 Toyo's. Wonder how they would look on a 2wd?

Similar to rjm022; except substitute 48RE with 68RFE and substitute 1900 with 1700.

I put 315's on a couple of years back and did not lose any milage. Course when I switched from the BF Goodrich All Terrains (315s) to the Hankook Mudders (35s - same tire size as the 315s), my mpg dropped some.

I have 285/75/17 Toyos on my 2WD and they do well. I like them better than my previous 285/70 BFGs. The pics in my gallery have the BFGs and I have pics of the Toyos here

Thumbs up

Well, I thought I was going with the Toyo 285/75, but the Discount Tire I always go to had a set of Nitto 295 TGs that someone ordered and backed out on. I got them out the door with lifetime balancing for $788!! Thats a great deal that I couldnt pass up!

I have the 315s (H-2s) and the 3.73, 2wd, 6 speed. I'm getting the best mileage ever (and it was good before). Before I could get 20 -21mpg highway, now I can get 24 on long trips at 70mph and even better if I take the 55mph roads. Not fun going slow but great getting better mileage!

I ran 315's this summer and my mileage back and forth to work stayed about the same 20-22 mpg's. My highway mileage suffered a little though compared with stock tires. With the stock tires 265-70-17 I was getting 24-26 mpg's with the 315's I was getting only about 23 mpg. This is all hand calculated. Just another data point for you to consider.
