Filter Minder
#16
The minder should never move with a clean filter, the one you have is too restrictive. I use a Wix drop in filter, rated around 675 cfm if I remember. I have never seen the minder move since I switched to this filter, even when it was a little dirty. Chunk that Fram and put in a Wix, what you gain in MPG will offset the couple of bucks you'll be losing.
I use the same filter. My filter minder has never moved. I change out the filter at 15-20,000 intervals. Napa Gold 2846 made by Wix.

It's not the filter.
I was waiting to dyno, and the guys truck before me had pulled his filter minder all the way down that was without a filter or anything. I guess enough air was going by at high speed and created a vacuum.
I tied this once and found the same effect. I made a tube straight from the front of my air box to the grill. Ram air right. Nope the air passing around the front of these bricks we drive crated a vacuum. Filter minder was all the way down. That was normal driveing, not raceing.

Well I pulled out the old filter and it didn't look too bad. Then I turned it over. I put in the new Fleetguard one that came in the 6/2/1 kit from Geno's. I know DTR members rave about their oil filters, but how do they stack up to the others mentioned on this thead?
Thanks for all the input, too.

Changed my air filter today with 83,500 miles. For the first time the filter minder was at the change filter mark. The filter didn't look all that dirty.
I installed a Fleetguard filter. Drove it and got the same results as with the old filter. I could feel no noticable increase in power. Boost was 22-23 psi at 2200 RPM with WOT. EGT was between 1000 and 1050 The outside oir temp and humidity was about the same as the base line established with the old filter. The filter minder remained at the lowest setting although I didn't wind the engine up to max RPM at WOT.
Some have said that you will get an increase in MPG with a new filter. I believe this is true with a engine with a carburator but not with a computer controlled injector engine, gas or diesel. The oxygen sensor in the exhaust controls the amout of fuel that is delivered to the engine. The only thing that I see is an increase in power, because of an increase in air flow. That could in fact reduce the MPG if full power is used needlessly.
I will continure to montor my MPG and power as needed. I am presently getting between 19 and 20 MPG back and forth to work.
Will keep you posted.
