Fan took out harness??
I have been hearing a noise under the hood and thought it was the tensioiner pulley bearing making noise... I replaced it and the sound persisted... It was definitely a bearing noise on the front of the motor... then 2 days ago I noticed my temp start going up past 200 to about 225-230... I figured it was time for a water pump but there was no leaks... I swapped out the water pump but the old one was fine (except for having 120K miles on it) but I replaced it any way... While I was replacing it I noticed a big chunk of my fan had broken off and cut the wiring harness that controls the fan clutch.... WTH!
That explains why my temp rides up in town and stays good on the highway... But what would cause that?? Maybe I cranked it while there was an animal in there but I never heard anything to indicate that...
Has this happened to anyone else??

Several threads about the same problem. Some have said it happened going thru high water and the water pushed the wires into the fan, but I have to think that the fan clutch is going out, myself. The clutch is electronically engaged and it's speed is also monitored by the ecm. Thats what all the daggum wiring is for. They aren't cheap, that's for sure.
