Want to recommend a set up for those looking for a replacement for the stock muffler and tailpipe.

2004.5 Dodge Quad cab 4x4 shortbed... I left the cat and had a 40" Donaldson and new tailpipe installed and it is great.

Bit deeper at idle, more tone driving and with the straight through design you hear the turbo when you let off. I drove next to a cement barrier up a canyon and it is by no means loud by you can hear the engine which is nice.

I wouldn't call it a drone, but you get a "tone" at 23-2400 RPM but the more I drive the less I hear it. Took it up in the mountains to simulate towing and it was perfect...

Bought through Ryder and was $85 delivered and a little over $150 to install with new hangers and tailpipe... if your tailpipe is good it would be a $120 swap total...

 

I did mprp 4" Stainless about 5 yrs ago from the turbo back, It was too noisy accelerating or pulling the skid steer so I added a resonator. Still too noisy. I thought I'd get used to it but.... I was thinking about a Donaldson and eliminating the mbrp muff and resonator.

 

Right after I bought the truck new, I changed the 3" stock to a 4" stainless system from Banks. It is quiet and has a straight through glasspack muffler. !0 years later it is still perfect and quiet with no rust.

 

I removed cat and muffler , and installed a fte resonator...Has deep tone and will not have any drone...

 

I put a 4" SS exhaust on mine when it was new (can't remember who made it...), but the BEST thing I did to reduce drone was getting a Smarty Jr loaded with the 5.14B firmware.

The drone is gone, and now I hear tire noise, but the radio sounds so much better.
