From: I'll look into that!
I've had mine on for a year, through mud, snow, rain, no rust yet

The clamps will rust a little, but not the pipe. No cat with this kit. The factory disconnects right before the cat, and this is why you leave the stock downpipe. The 5" attaches to it perfectly and the fit is great. I installed mine with a lift and impact in about 45min. The worst part is you have to cut the factory stuff just after the muffler to get it out. You might want to have an exhaust shop do it due to this. They should only charge you $40 to $60 to do it, it's really straightforward and easy to install. Also you might want to get the straight pipe instead of the muffler. The muffler is really loud so it's kinda pointless. I wish I would have gone straight piped so you could hear the turbo through the exhaust more...

Yeah, the kit is a total replacement of everything after the factory downpipe. Including the "thing". It will be gone for good, as "things" don't belong on diesels anyway. The mighty Cummins will see a drop in EGT's as well as a healthy new sound, and you will be smiling ear to ear... There are no side effects to removing the "thing" unless you live in the "People's Republic of Kalifornia". lol

No, I don't have the cat. The kit eliminates it. I ordered my kit with the aftermarket muffler though. If I had it to do over again I would have just left it straight 5" pipe...

Yes! It comes with a downpipe too, but you won't need it... Only the 03 guys do.

Will a 5" system provide enough backpressure? I was under the impression that a 5" system was too big for a stock rig.

Graphite600,

We have exactly what you are asking for. It's a performance replacement muffler system from MBRP. It EXACTLY replaces your existing muffler on any of the 2004.5 and newer trucks. (can be used on 2003/04's if you get a 3.5 to 4.0 inch adapter to mate it to your stock 3.5 inch intermediate pipe) It has the welded hangers to snap right into place just like the stock muffler does. No welding or cutting required at all! It is a smaller version of our MBRP muffler and keeps the sound level low, yet when you floor it you hear a nice deep tone. It is built from T-409 stainless steel just like the stock system so it's a perfect match. For those that want the sound of the big rig we also have cat test pipes, that are to be used for offroad racing and pulling in 409 stainless steel too!
