Exhaust options

I have a 04 cummins 600, and would like to do some sort of exhaust upgrade, I would like some more sound, but don't want it to sound like a little honda civic, I want it to sound like a big rig, like a diesel engine is in my truck! I dont want to entirely redo the stock exhaust, cause it is 4 inch and I think thats plenty big, and I may add a box way down the road from now. I would also like to put a big tip maybe 6 inch, what muffler or non muffler suggestions do you recommend to get the sound I want? And where to get the parts?

And I am not interested in dual exhaust, nor do I care about the loud noise the exhaust may emit when this is all over.

Just get a local exhaust shop to order you up some 4" pipe and remove the factory muffler and the AHEM "thing in front of it" Get an AFE or Scotty's air kit and you will love the newfound noise. The autos have awesome turbo sound with a CAI and straight pipe. The manuals also get a cool "whoosh" sound when the wastegate opens for shifting.

Contact City Muffler and Performance on the Tip. They carry all kinds of nice silverline tips. I just put an awesome looking tip on my 5" kit from them...

I love my 5" setup, not much louder than a 4" setup but the EGT's will thank you.

I had a FloPro straight thru muffler installed that was designed for a diesel, makes a nice throaty sound.

If you are going to just remove the muffler, you are going to have to shop around. If you want the tailpipe to exit in the same location, you are going to need the pipe bent to make up for the offset muffler in and out. I went to a lot of shops to get a pipe bent and asked a bunch about a straight thru muffler with the offset in and out going pipe. I couldn't find a muffler that was a direct bolt on replacement. I also couldn't find a shop that had a 4 inch pipe bender. Most of the shops could handle three inch, but don't want to spend the $ for a 4-inch pipe bender.

In the end I purchased the MEP and couldn't be happier. It sounds great and I installed it myself in about 30 minutes.

That's the system I've got. I LOVE it. If you want to spend the money then go for it. It's pretty cheap and excellent fit. You don't have to change the downpipe, because the factory one is 4" and stainless. Theirs is the same but aluminized. Get the Silverline 5" rolled tip for it too...

also will the aluminized pipe rust? Was this kit easy to install with just basic hand tools, (no welding right?). how hard was the old factory exhaust to get off, any special tools needed there? Thanks alot whitesport600 for all your help!
