Exhaust help!
I want to make the exhaust louder on my 04 cummins 600, and I dont mind noise, my question is I want a nice diesel sound, should I get rid of the muffler or get an aftermarket one to get that true diesel sound?

Here is a copy and paste of an earlier post of mine.
Just got around to installing my straight pipe on my truck. I have included a video file so you will be able to hear what it sounds like. The quality isn’t all that great but you will be able to get an idea of what it is like. It is a large download so be patient (5.2MB). If the file doesn’t load directly from the page then right click and click (save target as) and then save it to your computer. There is no virus with this file.
***EDIT***
It seems to load faster if you right click "save target as"
Straight Pipe Sound/Video File
The straight pipe sounds completely different than it did on my 03. It is a very mellow sound much like an aftermarket muffler. I assume this is because of the cat. You can hardly hear it in the cab unless you really get on it.
I also bought the MPC Pipe from Geno’s. This made a bigger difference in the sound than I thought it would. You can definitely hear the turbo sing now. It is a night and day difference. I would highly recommend this upgrade!

I have a 4" turndown on mine, with the cat in place and the muffler MIA...I think it sounds sweet. Not super loud outside the cab, and nice and mellow inside. Exactly at 70 mph you get some interior resonance, but 2 mph either way it seems to go away. 75 mph and 60 mph it's nice and quiet except for the turbo whistle.

Graphite600,
Get one of our performance replacement mufflers, they bolt right into your stock 4 inch pipes, have the welded hangers on the muffler that connect to the stock mounts and are made from 409 stainless. The muffler gets you the nice sound but isn't loud unless you floor it. We also have cat test pipes if you do off road or racing if you want the max flow and want to really hear the turbo sing!
