Excessive cranking???
Here lately my rig is taking longer to fire. In the beginning it started near instantly, lately it's taking longer and longer to fire....what might be the causes of this? TIA

Excessive cranking
The very first thing I noticed when I get my 3rd gen that it cranks much more than my old second gen 24v did. How long I let the grid heaters run for and if I plug it in or not has no effect on how much it cranks. I would think that it probally has something to do with all the computer control that the 3rd gen engine has. It probally has to see many different conditions before the CP3 will inject any fuel.
The sad part is that it honestly embarrasses me sometimes because it makes me think of the old GM 6.5's that loved to crank and crank before they would fire.
Just my .02cents.
Mike

You need a good output from a combination of sensors... Crank, cam, and fuel if I'm not mistaken. The Gen III's do need to turn a bit more before they fire, but not all that much.
I'd check for any codes being thrown. My guess is a sensor that a bit slow on the uptake.
