Excessive Blow By , Rough idle , White Smoke ??
Are these 3 related somehow ? Rough idle and white smoke on start up and lots of blow by coming out of the tube . enough that at a traffic light it looks like my truck is on fire !! Wierd thing is that it doesn't always do this . Sometimes the truck runs normal .Any ideas on whats causing this and how to fix it ??

well I'll throw this out there
With the 'dog and 'painter both coming to the same conclusion they are probably onto something ...
But I saw this while I was looking through TSBs on another problem and thought I would pass it along.

TSB 18-041-05
Date: December 20, 2005
Models: 2006 DH/D1 Ram Truck Heavy Duty
NOTE: This bulletin applies to Ram trucks equipped with the 5.9L Cummins 24-valve
diesel engine (sales code ETH) built on or after June 9, 2005 through and
including November 8, 2005 (MDH 0609XX and 1108XX).
Overview:
This bulletin involves programming the PCM (Cummins) with new software.
Symptom/Condition:
The vehicle operator may experience one or more of the following after the Repair Procedure is
performed:
* Reduced white smoke and improved engine performance after a cold start at ambient
temperatures below 15.5° C (60° F).
* Improved Oil Pressure Gauge Operation.
Diagnosis:
Operate the power door locks. Iif the rear door lock(s) is lnoperatve, perform the Repair Procedure.
************************************************** ***
with the build dates they are quoting on this it looks like it's just at the very tail end of the '05 run and into the beginning of the '06 run.
Just throwing it out there hoping it's the always present "Do you have the latest ECM flash" solution.
