Engine swap

Hello All

I have a question that I am hoping someone has dealt with already. I have a rebuilt 5.9L engine out of an 05 Dodge M/T, this motor is complete with ECM wiring harness, injectors all complete. I have a buddy with an 03 Dodge with a M/T that needs an engine, I believe that he could use the engine from the 05 Dodge, using his ECM and wiring harness. Does anyone have any thoughts, comments or experience with this swap.

Thanks

I do believe they are the same only problem will be if he has SKIM or not since the code will be different and truck will not start or start and die. You will need to program that information into the ECM if you have anti theft. Gray key you have SKIM, if key is black you dont. Only dealer can program since secret key code is needed to put ECM into programing mode with the DRBIII

On vehicles equipped with SKIM, transfer the VIN and Security Key information from
the SKIM to the ECM. Using the DRBIII® select:
a. “DRBIII Standalone”
b. “1998 - 2007 Diagnostics”
c. “All”
d. “Theft Alarm”
e. “SKIM”
f. “Miscellaneous”
g. “Cummins ECM Replaced”
h. Follow the directions on the DRBIII® screen. When the process is complete,
