Engine stumbling on startup
I have a 2004.5 Dodge 2500, 325/600 with NV5600 and 57,000 miles. Almost everytime now for the last couple months the engine stumbles when starting up cold, which seems to be getting progressively worse, and a big puff of white smoke comes pouring out, much like a gasser that has been flooded. It did not do this before. I am in Texas and it even does this in the middle of the day if the truck has cooled down. I think that it is an injector that is leaking down. I have not taken it in to try the white smoke TSB because it did not do this until recently. I put about 400 miles a week on this truck, so it is not bad fuel, and I change the Fleetgaurd Stratapore fuel filter every 8k to 10k miles, I change oil every 3k to 4k miles, plus I get 19 to 21 mpg. No codes or CEL light have shown up either. This truck runs perfect except for this cold startup issue. Has anyone else experienced this?

My truck did this one day and it kicked out a Lift Pump code. Took it in and it has since been replaced with the in tank LP. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? That is how I new it was my LP. Pressures changed on me under load. No problems since the replacement.

It's not really the pressure it is the volume of fuel that is delivered. The pressure gauge for me is just a point of referance. I would see my pressure decrease under load more than it was before. I was seeing pressure of about 6.0- 6.5 Psi under load. When it kicked out the code it dropped to 4.0-4.5 PSI under load. At idle with the filter mounted LP your pressure will be around 8.0-8.5 PSI. At idle with an in tank LP you will see 9.5-10.0 Psi. Both of these readings are with a new fuel filter and the gauge installed between the filter and CP3. Everyone's setup may read different. That is why I say it is a guide. My advise to you is take it to the dealer and tell them your symptoms, skipping hard at startup, Ask them if they think it may be the LP. They will do a volume test. I would suspect it is going to fail. At your mileage you are still under warranty.
