Engine stalled!!!! What the !!!!!

I have an 06 3500 diesel (of course). I have not had any major issues with the truck so far. About 6 weeks ago I received a letter about a recall having to do with the steering. I take the truck in for a check and have them change the oil. They FLASH the truck also. The only thing I notice is a considerable difference in the fuel mileage, No problem. There is one other thing it seems to do now, when traveling between 10 - 15 MPH it shutters as if it can't find a gear it's happy with. Once you get past 15 it's smooth. This is not all the time, only if you try to hold a consistant speed of say 12. Which is not something I do everyday. Well, today I was going about 40 MPH and I suddenly lost all power. I coasted to a side steet and luckily was able to manage to turn as I had NO power steering. The truck stopped, I put it into park, I made 3 attempts to restart the engine without success. When turning the key towards me the accessories would come on and all the dash lights. On the 4th attempt it finally started. I was able to make it to my destination and another 50 + miles. I made about 4 stops in that time with no other problems. The check engine light never came on, there were no signs of a problem before or after.

What the heck is going on?

Check for codes.

Did your mileage increase after the flash?

Kind of what I thought. Guess I'll be taking it back up to the dealer. Should I expect that they can flash it again and it would be fixed. If that was the cause? Seems to easy.

Yes the mileage got better.

Does the horn honk now with it running and the door open? I bet it does. A safety upgrade that is about as annoying as it can get. And guess what, there's no take backs. Once you get it, it there forever. if I ever take mine into the dealer, I'm sealing off the ODB port so they can't do it.

Pull the codes yourself and post them up! If your mileage got better I wouldnt want to mess with it too much!

Pretty sure that they can pork your port if they want, the only way to keep them from doing it is to never take it in!

Please forgive my ignorance. How do I know if the transmission is a 48RE and how do I check codes?

Thanks

If its an auto its a 48re they have been since the body style changed. I think. To check the codes you can turn the key on and off three times leaving it on the third time and if there are any they should flash slowly across the odometer.

OK, it is an auto (why are sticks so hard to find?) anyways

horn does not honk if door is open and motor is running or even in gear

It took me a couple of tried but I got a code to show up. P 6033. I let it sit for a bit and it seems that was the only code. I tried it a second time and the only thing that showed up was dashes -------.

The problem bigIron mentioned sounds just like what is going on with that. I tried it in just 1st and just in 2nd but it still does it. Also tried it with the OD off and OD on. Still the same.

not if it's completely un-acessable. And as U said, it will ONLY go to a dealer as a last case option.

You sure it's not P0633?? Just the key fob isn't "programmed" in the ECM or it's invalid.

I guess it could have been P0633. I checked it again but all I get now is
--done--

do these codes disappear once you check them? I'm probably doing something wrong.

Thanks

Go out for a drive, then recheck the codes. Worst case is you have to visit the dealer to have the key fobs re-vin'd to the truck.

OK. I did try driving it and checking the codes. I couldn't get any codes to come up. Always said -- done--

I took it to the local dealer this morning. He just called and said that there were 2 problems one was the exhaust pressure control needs to be replaced, something about low pressure. This is a warranty item. The other was a security key issue 45.00 they need to fix the "communication".

I was wondering if there should be a cost cause if it is a communication issue that was not there for over 60,000 miles before they flashed and now it is after they flash then why do I have to pay for bad software? Also he is going to give it more information. So I guess they are going to flash it again. Probably how they are "fixing" the communication problem

They do not know why my truck stalled and don't know that this will fix it but it was all they could find.
