engine sneeze

Finally chose the dodge to make sure i ended up in a 2006, not a new diesel. Liking the truck very much, even with it's hard seats. Only oddity I have is about half the time when I kill the motor i get a "sneeze." Don't know how else to describe it, sounds like the motor puffs backwards through the air filter or something.

Anybody else had similar?

Mine seems to do the same thing. It also shakes a lot when I shut down. It's a 2006 2500 as well.

That is normal. The Cummins has so much compression that it stops faster than the pulleys do making that sound.

6 Speed or auto? My 6 spd will shut down real nice with the exception of the usual diesel shake, with the clutch pushed in. I have also read here somewere that they say to push the clutch in because it could possibly mess something up during shut down. Just can't remember right now.

The cummins usually shakes and makes a squeak when you shut it down. It is completely normal. The drive accessory belt continues to turn with the water pump, a/c, alternator, etc. for a second after the mighty cummins stops instantly due to high compression.

Every once in a while mine doesn't have the squeak....say every 10th shut down. And, I miss it!!
