Engine Oil Testing
I'd like to put an oil tap on my engine to have oil samples checked before changing the oil and filter. Where can I put the oil tap and what size pipe thread is it, 1/8, or 1/4 pipe thread. I use MOBIL 1 5/40 TURBO DIESEL MOTOR OIL My first oil sample was tested last July, and I ran the oil for almost 7,500 miles. I received a good report, and the technician at Blackstone Laboratories suggested to run the oil to 9,000 miles. I just had a sample tested last week with just over 11,000 miles. The report came back very good, now they say to run the oil 13,000 miles. So I'd like to have samples checked during the use of the oil, and not have to fool with the drain plug. I'm not interested in the oil sample valves that replace the OEM drain plug. Polaris Laboratories has a perfect sampling valve, just wondering what size pipe thread I need.

Fumoto comes highly recommended

EDIT: I just reread your last line and you don't want a Fumoto.
What exactly are you looking for then if you don't want to replace the drain plug?

Blackstone has their vacuum pump you could use.

Other than that your best bet is one of the ports on top of the oil filter mount. One goes to your turbo and the other is plugged. It is turned straight up so you would need to make some line so you can fill the bottle. Further and more important, you would need to restrict the flow since that is a pressure port.
Usually that port is used when guys install twins or when a bypass filter is installed.
Most times when the bypass is installed the return is fed through the oil fill cap. When you sample with this setup, you just lift the cap and fill the sample bottle. The bypass filter has a restrictor so you won't spray oil everywhere.
