engine oil poll!!

Ive used standard castrol dino oil the first couple changes, but I noticed Chevron Delo 400 is on sale at costco.. a case (enough for two oil changes) is 36 bucks. Can't beat that... I think I'll go get some for the next oil change which is about a week hopefully.

I ran Rotella T until 25K and then switched to Amsoil 5W-40. At the same time I did the diffs and 5-speed with Redline, and the transfer case with Amsoil. I took a guess at how much fluid I'd need for the transfer case, and ended up with several spare quarts so I went ahead and drained as much as I could get out of the power steering and replaced it with synthetic. I figure if the power steering fluid gets hot enough to warrant a stock oil cooler (yeah, there's a small one located below the intercooler; at least there is in '03), synthetic fluid couldn't hurt and might help.

After Delo changed its additive package to contain moly I switched from factory fill Valvoline PB (with moly) to Delo 400 15-40W CI-4 Plus. In addition, its easy to find at Wall Mart or Costco.
I chose not to spend $ on oil analysis, nor going to long drain intervals using $ynthetics on a high compression diesel. Instead, I choose to spend the $ on more frequent changes at every 5K using a top brand HD oil with Fleetguard Stratapore premium filter. That way, I know all the soot plus any contaminates (diesel fuel, etc.) are flushed and replenished with fresh oil/filter on a regular basis. Just my preference and its working very well so far.

Don't make any difference what kind of oil you use as long as it is the proper rating and changed regular. I got 100,000 miles free oil and filter change when I bought my truck,so whatever comes in the DC can is what they put in it, every 6k miles.I believe the dealer said it was mobil.

My first three oil changes were free by the dealer. after that I put Premium Blue Extreme in it, I couldn't find the oil i wanted for the next one so back to the dealer's oil and filter. Last time I put Royal Purple in everything but the tranny.

The synthetic Mobil is called "Truck and SUV" and comes in 5/40 only that I know of. Wal Mart carries it, and I see it comes in 5 qt. jugs now too. I ran it this winter because I can't plug mine in, and it gets sloooowww when it's below 0. I'm back to running Delo right now, being warmer and all.

I have always been a Castrol fan and use their Tection Extra (found it on sale buy 2 gallons get one free) It does produce the "oil smell' for about the first 500 miles fater a change

I use 50%/50% Valvoline Premium Blue and Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme and go 6K to 7K miles. I can get Blue at Advanced Auto Parts, but can get the Extreme only at NAPA. At least in this area.
