Engine Knock (with sound clip)

I posted a sound clip on TDR of the knocking my truck started making recently. Sounds a lot like the injector knock described by others. Wonder if Cummins got a bad batch of injectors? Seems like a lot of people have brought up this problem lately.

I dident get to listen to the sound clip due to the fourums being down for a while but I think I know what you are talking abought. Mine is going in first thing tomorow for what I think is an injector. It has a real loud tick to it. The service manager came out and listened to it and said he thinks it sounds like its in the valve train but I still balive its an injector. Ill post back and let you know what they find.

Be careful driving it, that sounds almost like mine when I melted #6 piston. It's not as distinct as mine was cause when I talked to Keith, he could hear it over the cell phone.

Could also be a exhaust manifold leak. Keep us posted. Nat

Does the knock come and go with temperature changes, or is it constant all the time? For instance, does it to it at cold startup and get better as the engine temperature increases?

There is a VERY slight (I probably would't have noticed much before but my ears have gotten very sensitive) knocking at startup but gets much worse as the engine gets up to temp. Cruising down the road it sounds perfectly fine. Only at idle in drive does it really start knocking.

It's going in this morning so I'll let everyone know the prognosis

Is there any way you could get the sound clip on here?? I can't get it to work from TDR's page (maybe they need some $ in order to let me hear it. )

Mine has a slight knock, but everyone has a different opinion about what they think is loud. I want to compare yours with the sound my truck makes.

Try taking it to Glen Thomas Dodge in Long Beach. Those guys are great there.

That's where it is now. I service writer listened to it this morning and said "sounds all right to me" (as the engine is going knock, knock, knock...........) I'm not getting a very good feeling right now, but I'll reserve judgement until the mechanic actually gets to listen to it.

Half the guys over on TDR seem to think the sound is perfectly normal. The other half say it sounds like crap. If this is normal, it doesn't sound anything like it used to and none of the other 555 trucks around here sound like this.

The noise sounds exactly like mine does at times. I can minimize the noise to almost extinction by being very picky where i fuel up at. Its kinda like a tattletale to me right after fillup as to whether the fuel was any good or not.
