Engine fan alternative replacement

Engine fan alternative replacement
Hey Guys,
I have an 04 Dodge Cummins Commonrail Diesel and I was wondering if anyone has ever replaced their electronically controlled fan & clutch with a stock mechanical clutch fan, like from an earlier 2nd generation Dodge Cummins 24V motor. I don't even know if its possible or wise considering the 04 Fan is huge compared to earlier models. I also don't know if will bolt on or even if the fans rotate the same direction.
I have heard of a company in Montana that builds an adapter to use a Ford 7.3 Powerstroke mechanical clutch and fan from their later models in the 3rd Gen Cummins Dodge.
Any other ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,
Joe

I wouldn't replace mine cuz the fan also cycles off of A/C head psi to keep it down. This elec/viscous clutch works better than anything I've ever had. Horton is a big name in HD fan clutches. I wonder if that's who makes that 2 spd clutch. Craig

Sorry Guys,
Let me explain.
I'm putting an O4 Cummins Commonrail out of a Dodge into a 1990 Chevy 1 ton Crewcab 4x4 (old square body type) and just from what I've heard the stock fan will fit if it's cut down about 4" all the way around and re-balanced.
I'm not at that stage of the installation yet, but I'm just re-searching my options. I heard that there were some problems with the computer controlled clutch fan, so I was just thinking why not install an earlier version, or maybe use a Ford Powerstroke 7.3 fan. GOS performance in Montana sells an adapter to use a Ford fan in place of the computer controlled fan that Dodge uses.
I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that the Commonrail needs more cooling than the 1st or 2nd generation Cummins, (hence the bigger fan), and I'm not sure that cutting that 26" fan down 4" will cool the motor properly.
Thanks for your time,
Joe
