Engine Died & While Driving
Driving down the road, engine just died. It was cold (15F), and the engine was not warmed up (only went 2 miles or so at slow speeds (15 mph). It started right back up and acted as if nothing was wrong. A couple of hours later it did the same thing. I kept on driving for 80 miles or so & no problems. No codes thrown or check engine light. Felt like someone just turned off the key both times.
Could this be the fuel gelling up? I don't use additives but the fuel should be adequately winterized this time of year. Possible electrical/computer problem?

Could be water in the fuel also. Make sure the wires are all hooked up to the WIF sensor and the fuel heater. Been a couple of guys where the factory left them disconnected. There have also been some problems with lift pumps. I would recommend you add Stanadyne PF over the winter at least. I run it year around now with all the low sulphur fuel issues, especially it seems in the colder climates.

How do you check for a bad lift pump?
When the above happened I had half a tank of fuel & was real light on the throttle. Should'nt the hogh pressure pump be sufficient to pull the fuel even w/o a lift pump working?

Have you ever drained a little fuel out of the bowl to ensure there is no water present in the bottom of the fuel bowl? Try the simple stuff first.

Have no changed the fuel filter yet, truck has less than 10K miles on it. Have not drained filter - used to do that on my other trucks & never saw water come out. If there is water in the filter housing, than the water sensor must not be working. Will try to drain & swap out filter tomorrow.
