Rebuilt engine should be honed. NEVER re ring without honing.

Also, rebuilt engines usually rebuilt crankshafts with all new bearings.

Heads are usually rebuilt.

If I had something that far apart, I would definitely spend the money to o ring and stud the head.

I would fight the warranty company in court personally.

it says in the warranty that there is a maximum $2500 per claim. so that would help but by the time you get a lawyer and fight it in court ill maybe get $1000 or so and alot of headaches. also i was reading under fine print and terms and it says" will cover block and all insides excluding any damage caused from overheating" also it states that it will not repair a burnt valve. So they are right in the aspect. but i said can you help me out a little since my part will be $15,00 and he laughed and paused for like a minute and said nothing.

Moral of story never buy aftermarket insurance/warranty....even factory warranty now a days can be decieving if you know what i mean.

Personally for $15000 I would be looking for a good used motor to put in instead.

ie. http://www.fordcummins.com/engines-for-sale.html

Or something similar in your area. In Calgary there is an autowrecker who does nothing but trucks, light medium and heavy duty.http://www.truckspeaker.com/index_files/Page365.html

You can probably get away with spending a 1/2 or less of that $15000 and most wreckers give warranty on their used motors as well.

15, 000 i would go buy another truck! Sale yours as is for 5,000 and you have you a 20,000 dollar truck. As for it being bullet proof, its a saying that means if well taken care of it will last pretty long! An if your a diesel mechanic why are you paying someone to do what you can do yourself?

they say it has brand new pistons, rods, bearings etc...only crank and cylinder bores are re used.meaning they didnt rebore or rehone they just inspected cylinder walls and dropped in new pistons/rings etc...does this sound good?

Good god man, you are no mechanic.....no harm in it....don't know why you need to tell us you are.....but anyhow.....

Didn't you just put new injectors in it?

15K is way to much.

i dont work on gas engines. unless a 350 chevy is diesel i cant help you out. im a mechanic. i work at a underground mine. i dont think i can bring my truck 1.5 km underground in salt conditions to work on it. (rethink this you clowns before you speak)

and i have a house with NO GARAGE. no garage. its -35 celcius outside right now. should i tear engine apart or pull motor on street? what if the snow removal blows snow on me while im under hood? i aint being funny im dead serious. i should post u a pic of my house. i have no place to work on it. only thing i can borrow is a garage and theres no hoist in there to pull motor. to do it right i wanna pull motor and send it to cummins to get resleeved so i can put OEM pistons into it. how can i pull a engine without hoist?

not only that i owe about $20,000 on my truck

lol. seriously though. you guys would have a valid point if i worked on surface and had my own garage/shop with hoist. it would be hard for wife and i to lift engine out of truck.......so i either pay $15,000 to get truck fixed or spend $25,000 on a garage and $6000 for parts and do it myself. and we need the truck right away. what would you do?

I would buy a good used engine and have a shop put it in, way under 10Gs.

That's what I would do at least.

i went to shop today which is a few hours away. #1 piston was melted on the top like a mushroom. cylinder walls were scored. a hole through a exhaust valve and the valve seat got pushed into the head. nothing went through turbo. the only way it would be cheaper is if i just bore out cylinder 1 in the truck and put a oversized piston in there. then i would have like 450 compression on number 1 and the rest would be 355,380,360,370,390 now if you ask me that would run like crap. and to redo my engine properly it would cost $3000 more than if i buy this reman engine.

This reman engine has brand new everything. everything is new except for crank. but they check that.head is reman . they are even putting my brand new injectors in it. so basically ill have a brand new engine and tranny.

Sally, some are giving you a hard time and I think its because of the way that you word your sentences. Re-read before you post. When you say mechanic, state what type of mechanic. We are on a diesel forum, so most assume your a diesel mechanic. Just trying to help you out bud. Don't get too upset about the comments others make. In 2 months, most will be over it or have forgotten.
