Engine is almost apart.....sallymans results

The place I brought truck to did a compression test today. cylinder #1 had 0 psi compression, cylinder 2-6 were between 360-380 ish. tommorrow theyll have head off. i hope its a bad valve and not rings. if its rings and my block is scarred, would i be better off to replace engine with a used one or bore out all 6 holes and put oversize pistons in? hopefully i dont have to and maybe itll just be a seat.

it would probably be bad to get all valves cleaned up wouldnt it? it would make my top end strong and then maybe ill have low by then?

thats why when i tell you guys about my egts theres something wrong. i seriously see 850 egt on highway empty going 100 km/hour stock with edge off. if i floor it half throttle or full throttle i could easily hit 1500F in like 5 seconds.this is probably what screwed my engine up. i didnt go over 1300 for more than 8 -10 seconds.

Sorry to hear it. It could be a valve or a melted slug(piston). Leaky/Sticky injectors are the #1 cause of this. Hate to hear that for you. Weigh your options to having the bottom end done and correcting any issue, which i hope you don't have, in that cylinder. You may get lucky and the hole will be fine.

You should be able to do the engine for a whole lot cheaper than that with a helix II and some valve springs to boot. 10,000 max.

Yea and you wanted to blame it on the edge j/a! Bore is the size of your cylinders. To bore it out is to make it bigger. So if they bore it .020 it is 20 thousandths bigger then stock.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
If a cylinder is scored, you CAN just bore that cyl at .020, .030, or .040 oversize. Contary to popular opinion you can just bore one cyl and pistons are avaliable from Cummins at a very expensive price or aftermarket. A cheaper alternative is sleeve the offending cyl back to standard and use standard piston. Absolutelly the most cost effective method. Then you can spend your extra money on good upgrades, like O rings and head studs.
Now you might be lucky and just have a valve or head gasket issue???????

I knew there had to be a problem with the engine just by listening to the sound of the truck in the videos. That engine just sounded to rough.

Heads studs and a factory MLS gasket will hold fine for any single or most twin turbo set ups.If your only gonna run the factory turbo then head bolts will work fine to 45-50lbs

O-ringing isn't really needed unless you are gonna get some big twins and push things to the limit.
