electronic waste gate good?

electronic waste gate good?
i see 04.5 up have electronic waste gates, is their an advantage of having that versus the manual, or is it a downfall , not sure difference?

yes the 4.5 trucks have electronic wastegates, i feel they are both good and bad.
BAD... in stock form they where placed on the engines to lower emmisions (NOx) by keeping the wastegate open (or partially open) during low load conditions to lower boost and therefor lowering the combustion chamber pressures (to reduce NOx) while also raising the EGT temps to keep the cat hot to burn off the excess fuel. All of this also obviously lowers the engines efficentcy.
GOOD.. A simple flash programmer can adjust all the boost and fueling tables to make the engine run much more effiecently, while gaining power and lowering temps (probably also dumping NOx). So they are good, especially if you like pushin buttons more than wrenchin, personally I would perfer the simplicity and reliability of a mechanical wastegate.
