EGT temps and gauges

If EGT temps, and cooling them down, are a concern with CTD especially after towing why does DC not include gauges for such a critical measurement as a basic setup for the truck?

Basically it's all about money. Think about how many cars come with "idiot" lights instead of gauges. Its a lot cheaper to make a comment in the owner's manual about leaving the engine idle for a few minutes to cool down the EGT than supplying the customer with the proper tools to monitor the engine. Probably with a bone stock truck you are not going to raise the EGT over the safe limit even while towing heavy because of all the safeguards in the ECM program. Start modifications and all bets are off, hence the reason everyone recommends gauges when you are B-O-M-B-ing.

Probably because you have to flat out abuse the truck to get the EGT's high enough to hurt anything with stock tuning. Everyone is so concerned with EGT's, its just a pretty gauge to look at, I hear guys all the time pushing 1650 or more for 10 minuts or so, they have no problems, I have even heard of peopel hittin lots higher for unsustained times. Has anyone actually done damage to their CTD by over heating the exhaust? If so what all was done to the truck?

Its the same reason there is no boost gauge, the engine won't build enough boost stock to hurt itself....I did blow up an intercooer, but it was crappy plastic one.

Now DC should really think about a trans temp gauge, Guys tear up trannies all day long even with stock trucks.
MY .02 prabably worth less.

Matter of fact the EGT gauge is somewhat useful information. Not only limits, but also for performance indications. I think there is a guy on here without gauges that just cracked his manifold and turbo running too hot. Really important when you start modding your truck... I have not heard too many guys running 1650... I ran 1550 for just a few seconds when I took my truck to the drags with the SMARTY on level 9.. Running 1650 seems excessive... And some of the stock trucks are starting to put boost gauges in. I know Ford had them, and again, another good indication of performance. If you can't build good boost, then you know there is a problem.

lets start with a factory trans temp guage that every one can use then worry about a factory egt gauge that only a few need.
