Re:Egt Probe for 3rd Gen.

No we left the turbo on...use grease on the bit and clean it often...then use a magnet in the hole to collect the shavings...on start up the small amount of what might be left gets pushed out the exhaust. I have done it this way on many many trucks. No problemo.

Re:Egt Probe for 3rd Gen.

That is the method I used on my '97 - and it worked great. But, I was concerned about the '03 with the placement of the turbo. It is directly underneath - it seems that any shavings that fall on the inside are going to fall out of reach - where on the '97 they just fell down and landed right under the hole where I picked them out with a magnet.....But that is encouraging that you didn't have any problems - I hate to pull the turbo off.

Thanks
rob
Scotty and I discussed the pyro install, and we decided to do it as he had mentioned.

Then I got to looking a little closer at everything, and decided to be ****, so I dropped the turbo, and stuffed a rag in between the manifold and the turbo. I'm glad I did. Even heavily greased, a magnet, and a shop vac, when I pulled the rag away it had alot of shavings on it. Now I realize that the shavings would need to wedge between the impellor blades and the housing to cause any damage (not likely), I decided that with my luck, something would likely happen

So I'd definitely recommend dropping the turbo on the 03's.

Rod

Re:Egt Probe for 3rd Gen.

Push Rod & Scotty, How about dropping the turbo and inserting a sheet of galvanized in between turbo and manifold to catch the metal filings? Afterwards slide out the metal with filings on the surface.

Re:Egt Probe for 3rd Gen.

That would probably work, but you'd have to be careful not to tilt the galvanized when pulling it out, otherwise the shavings could slide off. With a shop rag, the shavings tend to stick to it.

Rod
