ECM pinout 2004.5 vs 2005
Hi everyone,
Im having a hard time finding an ECM pinout for a 2004.5 ECM. Trucks cab was replaced with an 05, hooked everything up and fired up fine, but no response from throttle pedal. Pulled the codes and it says APPS signal not returned. This tells me I have to repin the ecm for the throttle pedal. All the links I can find are out dated and no longer work. I have the pinout for the 05, and one for an early 04, but Im not sure its the same as 2004.5. the 2004 has provisions for the not idle swtich, which I dont have, but does have APPS singals.
The 05 had the electronic pedal in the cab, while the 04 has the remote mounted cable operated version. The cable version was swapped to the new cab, but the pins are not in the correct location on the ECM
Thanks guys!

Yep, the 2004-05 Dodge Cummins are the worst for this type of thing as Dodge made various changes during this 2 year model run.
ECM changes, engine changes, turbo changes, auto and manual trans changes, wiring harness changes, fuel pump changes, APPS changes, etc, etc...
If the truck was running fine and all the electrical was working fine prior to swapping the cab, "all" you should have to do is swap the entire harness from the old cab to the new cab, possibly including the dash harness.
Are you sure the original truck is a 2004.5?
Exactly what ECM are you using?
An early 2004 Dodge Cummins is indeed different from a 2004.5 Dodge Cummins.
Different ECM, different engine wiring harness, different from auto trans to manual trans, etc.

Engine says 325 hp, build date is early 04 (may) but as its the 325 HO and not the 305, I believe it to be 2004.5.
As far as switching harness', not a great option as the connectors from engine to cab are differend. Id have to swap the entire cab harness, was much easier to swap the engine harness and repin 6 wires.
The ECM is the one for the motor, manual trans.

Ok, you are mixing and matching which is not recommended for the years of trucks and parts that you have.
We need more details on your original truck. You state it is a manual trans.
Is the original truck a 2004.5?
Door jam VIN sticker shows a build date of Jan 1 2004 or later?
Coolant overflow bottle is on the passenger side firewall by the turbo?
Where is the original APPS located? On the engine or under the driver's side battery?
You are using the original ECM that was in original truck?
Is the 2005 donor cab from a Dodge Cummins with a manual trans?
I'm assuming both trucks are 4x4?

Yes original truck is 2004.5
Build date is 5-2004
coolant overflow is on firewal by turbo yes
original APPS under battery on drivers side
ECM is orginal to motor yes. Used the matching SKIM as well. All gauges work. Truck fires and idles fine.
2005 cab is 2005 with auto trans
Both trucks are 4x4 yes.
Thank you for helping

Thanks for the info!
So what you are trying to do is use is the 2005 auto trans cab and dash wiring harness with the 2005 auto trans engine harness with the 2004.5 manual trans ECM and 2004.5 APPS in the 2004.5 truck.
This is complicated with many variables.
As you mentioned in your original post, you will need the exact wiring harness diagrams for both trucks to sort all the wiring and pin outs out.
It may not even be possible to make this combo work, although you are close.
Plus you will have a real mismatched wiring harness at the end of the day.
My earlier recommendation still stands which was to swap the original 2004.5 cab harness into the new 2005 cab.
It would be time consuming and a PITA but your truck would work and you would still have a factory 2004.5 wiring harness which is a huge benefit down the road.
That's all the info I have at this point...
I hope you are able to get it figured out...

Is there any way I can use the serial number from the ECM to get an exact pin out for it? There has to be some way the dealers use to correct issues, seeing how there were so many variations, how do they do it?

The Dodge/Ram/ Chrysler dealers use the truck's VIN number for everything.
It's the 1st thing they ask for when you call them for any parts.
It's definitely worth a shot calling a dealer with the VIN number and see if they can help.
