dually - a little more tire?

i own an '05 dually cummins and the only part im not pleased with is the anemic stock tires.

option #1 (preferred method) - find tires that are more aggressive than the stock tires (interco trxus mtr, or bfg mt type tread) that are slightly taller than stock tires. a somewhat aggressive 33x9.50 r17 in a 10 ply tire would be perfect.....sadly no such tire seems to exist. the closest ive been able to find is the cooper st in the original stock size, but id like to go taller.

option #2 - find aftermarket wheels that would allow me to run a taller and wider tire. this isnt what i want to do, but will if i have to in order to gain off road performance. if this is the route i have to go, what is the best combination in keeping with my criteria listed below?

i work the truck through the week, and during the weekends its biggest usage will be hauling a 4,500# slide in camper (including people and gear) while towing up to 10,000# (most likely only 6,000#, but the potential exists for 10,000#). because of this i hope to not require spacers for what i want to do, and i dont want to lift the truck other than possibly a 2" front leveling kit. i dont want a tire like a superswamper or anything, but i need something more aggressive than a highway tire.

i cant believe how difficult this has been. ive been searching for options for some time now, and have found nothing like i want.
thanks,

those tires dont appear anymore aggressive than the stock ones. if i have to upgrade wheels im willing, but not to get the same type of tire that i already have.
thanks,

Look these over....

I looked into them....spendy!!! However, they may not be what you are looking for, as they tend to be street truck tires.

ive already got street truck tires, i need some real off road tires. nothing like a super swamper, but something similar to the trxus mt would be great.
thanks,

I agree, give me something like a 245/80/17 or 255/80/17 in a meatier tire and I'd buy a set too. I really would like a little taller tire!

how is he doing that, or are they rubbing in the back? sadly they wont work anyway, load range D. i need E for the load im hauling. :-(

that said, im very interested in how he is running them without them rubbing because there are other load range E tires i can find in that size.

Mastercraft makes a more agressive 235 80 but i'm not sure how good of a tire they are. i have some coopers on the front of mine and i run the most aggresive tire michelin has for the rear. they have not put out the xps yet in the 17 size which is what i used to run,but what i have on now is a little better then the avg street tires. plus with michelins i get around 45k out of the tires

Looks like the perfect tire for your needs isn't being manufactured yet due to the still somewhat new tire size on the Ram. Hold tight though, they will start producing them as folks start needing new tires.

I had Dean STX's on my '03 DRW, stock size but pretty agressive, they are made by Cooper and held up pretty good. They certainly would tear up some habitat. Might get ya by until some one builds pizza cutter 255-80-17.
